Robotic competitions are becoming more common - and more interesting!

Robo-1

This competition (see http://www.robo-one.com/index.html) pits humanoid robots against each other in autonomous martial arts competitions. Commercial mini-humanoids sold in Japan are the starting point, but they are usually heavily modified and reprogramed. This year's event was "the first one where the robots actually looked like they were fighting each other" - Click the image for a movie of these robots battling it out!

"There is only one condition in which we can imagine managers not needing subordinates, and masters not needing slaves. This would be if every machine could work by itself, at the word of command or by intelligent anticipation."
- Aristotle, from his justification of slavery in Politics
