Emiew stands for "excellent mobility and interactive existence as work mate". This shows some different shots of the robot. It has digital cameras and radar sensors mounted on its head and middle body and is fairly adept at avoiding objects - a quoted reaction of 100 miliseconds. They move at a speed of 6km/h (3.7 miles per hour) - currently faster than most robots, but possibly only a little faster than the running Asimo. Their voice recognition system includes a vocabulary of about 100 words. Hitachi has a long history of developing robots, and they recently released a robotic vacuum cleaner. Hitachi hopes to be selling more advanced versions of these robots by 2010.
