The Chronio ("kuroi") is one of the amazing, and very stylish robots out of
Kyoto
University's Robo-Garage.

Created by Tomotaka Takahashi from Robo Garage, this 35cm, 1kg robot has an advanced carbon/plastic frame, and the ability to walk without the bent knees characteristic of other humanoid robots. To do so it uses software developed at Osaka University called SHIN-walk. The styles of this robot, and others produced by Robo-Garage, is a conscious effort to match real-world robots to the visionary designs common in Japanese animation and science fiction.

"There is only one condition in which we can imagine
managers not needing subordinates, and masters not needing slaves. This
would be if every machine could work by itself, at the word of command or
by intelligent anticipation."
